Both were admitted to schools that were among their top choices. My children have very different interests, learning styles, and personalities. Our consultant tailored their approach accordingly. My daughter immediately focused in on small liberal arts colleges, whereas my son’s interests were all over the map (small liberal arts colleges to the UCs; northeast, south and west; etc.). My daughter was ready to commit and felt comfortable applying early decision, whereas my son was not that far along in his decision-making process. Applying early decision has advantages in terms of higher chances of acceptance. Our consultant, while clearly laying out the risks, worked with my son to develop a plan that he felt comfortable with.
